The Floating Jazz Festival

The first Floating Jazz Festival was held aboard the S/S Norway in September 1983, and was produced annually or semi-annually on various ships until 2002, but the S/S Norway or Queen Elizabeth 2 were the primary venues. The most legendary figures in jazz appeared at the festival and, as co-producer of the event, with Shelley Shier, I had unlimited access to all the musicians and performances. In fact, we structured all the performances and selected all the musicians. I had a camera with me at all times, and the file contains many thousands of photographs, black and white and color, from 35mm to large format. Photographs from this festival make up the largest single section of my jazz archive and these are some of my favorites.
