Gay Day

During the years 1973 1981 I photographed the annual Gay Parade on Christopher Street, which in those years was my front yard. In 1983 Allen Ginsberg saw the photographs and thought they were terrific. He captioned about 120 of them and we planned to turn the photos and captions into a book. Williams S. Burroughs wrote an introduction and we made the rounds. We were rejected by everyone. The book sat on the shelf until 2005, when Harry N. Abrams published everything as Gay Day A History of the Christopher Street Parade in 2006.
