Flower Portraits

I know there is a long tradition in still life photography of flowers, but I never experimented with photographs of this sort for many years. In February 1992, however, I became interested in three large roses at my office. They had opened in a very interesting way and I wondered how I might photograph them with a large format camera.

I set up my Deardorff, experimented a little, and ultimately came up with a photograph I liked. From time to time over the years I’ve experimented with calla lilies, tulips, African daisies and other flowers. I've also taken floral and nature photographs at Glenside, my country home. These are some of the results I find the most appealing.
